How to Find My Medicare ID Number

How to Find My Medicare ID Number

Need your Medicare ID # and don’t want to sit on hold waiting for Medicare to answer the phone? Here are the ways to easily locate your Medicare ID #.

Your Medicare ID # consists of a combination of letters and numbers and is needed if you are going to apply or switch your Medicare plans. Your ID # is found on your ID card as shown in this sample:

If you cannot find your card, you can call Medicare to obtain a new one (800) 633-4227 or better yet, just access it EASILY online. For online access, go to www.ssa.gov or www.socialsecurity.gov. If you haven’t created an account yet, do this first.

Once you are logged in, look for the “Benefits & Payments” section. Click the link that says “Get a Benefit Verification Letter” and a new window will open. This window is a letter summarizing the benefits you received from the federal government. It will show your Social Security benefit information, as well as your Medicare Part A & Part B start dates and Medicare ID Number (also known as the Medicare Claim Number). You can print the letter or save it as a PDF document for easy access anytime without having to go online.
