Affordable Care Act (Individual and Family Plans)
Let’s address the elephant in the room right away.
Yes, I said it y’all, Obamacare, aka The Affordable Care Act. Republicans might call Obamacare a term of affection, while democrats may say it has negative connotations. No matter what you call it, or what political side of the fence you are on, it’s important that you know what it can do for you!
So ignore all of the chatter around the water cooler and let me fill you in on what you need to know! I’m sure you have a lot of questions!
Right now you are probably thinking:
- When and how do I apply?
- Do I go on or off the exchange?
- Will I be penalized for not obtaining health insurance?
- What do I do if I can’t afford my companies insurance?
- Can I get help with my premium?
- Who can assist me with all of this?
That is where I come in…so let’s get started!
Taking the Mystery out of Medicare
Medicare can be very confusing, there’s no question about it. That’s what I’m here for. Medicare pays for 80% – I care how you pay for the rest! I make it easy for you to understand, help you figure out your options, when to enroll, what will be covered and so much more! And the best part is, you don’t pay any more or less to have me as your advocate!
What Does Medicare Cover?
MEDICARE HAS 4 PARTS:
- Hospital, Skilled Nursing, Hospice, etc.
- Doctors, Outpatient, Ambulance, etc.
- Medicare Advantage Plan
- Prescription Drug Plan
MEDICARE HAS 3 OPTIONS:
- Original Medicare (Part A & Part B) OR
- Original Medicare (Part A & Part B) PLUS
- Supplemental Coverage (Medigap – see below) AND/OR Prescription Drug Plan (Part D).
Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C, like an HMO, PPO, MSA, PFFS, etc.): Most times, these plans include Part D and can include other services that Medicare doesn’t cover (dental, vision, transportation, acupuncture or chiropractic care). Insurance can, and should be, much more then something that pays out when someone has died. There are many plans I present to clients that turn your life insurance into a significant part of your retirement package. It also can be used as a significant source of extra income for the surviving family when the right amount of coverage is purchased.
As a licensed life insurance agent, I believe that protecting your family is an important part of any financial strategy one considers.
There are many traditional arguments for why one needs to carry a life insurance package as a part of their family financial management plan.
But You Do Have Options!
Some Medicare Advantage plans (Part C, like an HMO, PPO, MSA, PFFS, etc.) include routine dental. Visit my Medicare Page for more information about the Advantage Plans.
Individual Dental Insurance – this works pretty much the same way as your health insurance. You pay a monthly premium in exchange for dental benefits, which typically include: cleanings, exams and x-rays. Some plans cover more than others and some require higher out-of-pocket co-pays at the time of the appointment.
Turning 26 Plans
Give your adult “child” the BEST 26th birthday present – The gift of Healthcare! Are you about to turn 26 years of age and worried that you won’t have healthcare coverage? Do you have a young adult “child” who is 25 years of age and has been receiving healthcare benefits under the Affordable Care Act from your policy, but now time is ticking and needs to have a policy of his/her own?
I can help you find a healthcare plan that suits your needs and budget without the hassle! Connect with me to learn more!

You’re probably wondering:
- Wait a minute, I have health insurance so aren’t I already covered for routine vision exams?
- What about Medicare and Obamacare? Do they include vision coverage?
Unfortunately, Medicare DOES NOT cover routine eye exams, glasses or contacts. However, Medicare (Part B) will pay for:
- Cataract surgery
- One pair of glasses or contacts following cataract surgery
- Yearly glaucoma tests for people at high risk
- Yearly eye exams for people with diabetes
If you don’t fall into one of these categories? DON’T WORRY! You can still get vision coverage! I will help you find a Medicare Advantage Plan that covers the vision services you need!
What About ObamaCare and Vision Insurance?
The Affordable Care Act or Obamacare DOES NOT provide vision coverage for adults. However, Qualified Health Plans sold on the Marketplace DO include pediatric vision coverage.
So, eye exams and glasses for kids are covered.
You can purchase a Stand-Alone Vision Plan from companies that are not able to offer their coverage through the state insurance exchange marketplace. Y’all, I know this may seem confusing…but that is what I am here for! I will help you sort it all out and choose the vision coverage that’s best for you!
