The 411 on Dental Insurance and Your Pearly Whites!
“Be true to your teeth and they won’t be false to you. “
— Soupy Sales
We only get one set of permanent teeth y’all so you have to take care of them!
That means regular trips to the dentist for cleanings, exams and x-rays. But the truth of the matter is if you have Medicare or Obamacare, that 6-month check-up might not be covered by your insurance.
Unfortunately, routine dental care isn’t covered under Original Medicare (Part A & Part B) so you would be responsible to pay out-of-pocket for your dental care unless you have other dental insurance.
Individual dental plans are NOT like employer group dental plans. It’s much more confusing so unless you want to spend 80 or more hours doing research, spend that time doing things you love instead and just call us!
In a nutshell, most individual plans want you to pay something before they cover anything. Some plans (see links below), will cover some basic and major work in the first year (and we know who those companies are 😉 Click here for a brief but informational white paper on what you MUST be aware of when searching for dental plans.
NO OBLIGATION QUOTES
Check out the benefits, search for in-network Dentists, quote and/or APPLY
Need major work immediately? This plan covers 20-30% in the first year, increasing in the 2nd year:
If you can wait a bit for basic and major work, this plan is more affordable:
We have many other dental plans including HMO plans (which I do not recommend unless you REALLY know the Dentist), it just depends on which networks your Dentist accepts and how much you want to pay. Want more education? Read on and call us…
YOU HAVE OPTIONS!
- Some Medicare Advantage plans (Part C, like an HMO, PPO, MSA, PFFS, etc.) include routine dental. Visit my Medicare Page for more information about the Advantage Plans.
- Individual Dental Insurance – this works pretty much the same way as your health insurance. You pay a monthly premium in exchange for dental benefits, which typically include: cleanings, exams and x-rays. Some plans cover more than others and some require higher out-of-pocket co-pays at the time of the appointment.
C. INDEMNITY or PPO Choice Plans
D. DISCOUNT PLANS – These are exactly what it says, you only receive a discount on the service. Many include preventative exams at no or low cost so they are worth looking at.
Discount Plans are the most cost effective premiums but can cost you much more down the road if you need major services.
Okay, now it’s time to choose a plan!
So, keep these
4 things in mind:
- What will my monthly premium be?
- Will I have to meet a deductible?
- What dentists are in my network?
- What percentage will I have to pay for dentists outside of my network?
A lot to think about…I know!!
